Bobby Rush calls for patient dumping investigation at U of C; see the documents

By now you may have heard that Rep. Bobby Rush is calling for a Congressional investigation of patient dumping allegations at the University of Chicago Medical Center. Rush sent a letter to Rep. Ed Towns (D-NY) late last month requesting Towns, head of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, asking for an investigation of the "widespread" problem of patient dumping.

The university, of course, vehemently denies the allegations. It says people are misunderstanding the goals of its Urban Health Initiative, which seeks to take the burden of the ER, while providing patients with community medical homes.

Rush began looking into the allegations in March, after a Daily News reporter asked his office for comment on a Tribune story alleging patient dumping.
